MONCH
The Mönch stands out as the most frequently ascended 4000m peak Bernese Oberland.
The Southeast Ridge, the standard route, involves traversing exposed ridges, both on snow and rock.
This route offers a mix of fourth-class rock scrambling, leading to the breathtaking summit snow ridge.
Difficulty
Even though the Southeast ridge of the Mönch is considered a relatively easy route, it often surprises climbers with its considerable exposure, especially on the narrow snow aretes and the final, long snow and ice ridge to the summit. On this terrain good footwork and a steady head are needed.
Prerequisites
Climbers need to have experience in crampons, be sure footed and have a good “head” with exposure.
