Trois Monts

The Traverse of the Three Monts is likely the lengthiest and most panoramic itinerary among the standard routes leading to the summit of Mont Blanc. Beginning at the Aiguille du Midi, and crossing the Mont Blanc Massif ( Mont Blanc du Tacul, Mont Maudit, and finally, Mont Blanc itself.) This fantastic and challenging route culminates at the pinnacle of Mont Blanc.

Here's a general overview of the climbing route:

  1. Start Point: Aiguille du Midi (3,842 meters): The climb typically begins from the Aiguille du Midi, which is accessible by the Aiguille du Midi cable car from Chamonix.

  2. Mont Blanc du Tacul (4,248 meters): From the Aiguille du Midi, climbers descend onto the Glacier du Tacul and then ascend Mont Blanc du Tacul. This section involves navigating crevasses and seracs.

  3. Col du Mont Maudit (4,359 meters): After reaching the summit of Mont Blanc du Tacul, climbers descend onto the Col du Mont Maudit, a high mountain pass.

  4. Mont Maudit (4,465 meters): The route continues with an ascent of Mont Maudit, involving steep snow and ice sections.

  5. Col de la Brenva: Climbers descend from Mont Maudit to the Col de la Brenva, making their way across challenging terrain.

  6. Final Ascent to Mont Blanc (4,810 meters): The last leg of the journey involves ascending Mont Blanc itself. This part includes climbing the Bosses Ridge to reach the summit.

  7. Descent: The descent is usually via the same route or variations like the Goûter Route or the Three Monts Route, depending on conditions and preferences.
