WEISSMEIS

The Weissmies is a 4000 meter summit that can usually be ascended in a diverse amount of conditions. This making it an ideal objective for acclimatization and technically more difficult peaks in the area.

There are two main routes on the Weissmies, the normal route up the Trift glacier, and the South Ridge.

The Trift glacier, if done as a day climb, begins in the town of Saas Grund. After taking the Hohsaas lift, we quickly reach the Trift glacier. Although mostly moderate in angle we can encounter slopes of up to 50 degrees depending on the season and conditions. After navigating the glacier section of the route we move onto the west ridge and follow that easily to the summit of 4017m (12,217 feet)

Difficulty

The climb of the Weissmies is a moderately long climb with over 1000m (3000 feet) of elevation gain through a mix of terrain including snow, glaciers and rock.

Prerequisites

Climbers need to be generally fit, and have previous crampon experience.
