Vallée Blanche Traverse

The breathtaking scenery at the head of the Géant glacier stands as one of the most awe-inspiring landscapes. The traverse of the Vallée Blanche guides us through the heart of this remarkable terrain. Beneath the east face of Mont Blanc du Tacul, where granite spires command attention, we navigate through towering séracs and crevasse fields.

On the northern end, the Aiguille du Midi, our starting point, is conveniently accessible from Chamonix via téléphérique. The southern end marks the Italian border, concluding our traverse at Pointe Helbronner.

Our traverse commences with a challenging and exposed descent along a sharp snow arête, providing an exhilarating start to our journey. Below this, the route levels as we cross beneath the South Face of the Aiguille du Midi, passing alongside the formidable ice walls and hanging séracs of Mont Blanc du Tacul. This spectacular high-altitude trek involves approximately 600m of descent and 200m of ascent and serves as a wonderful independent journey or can be used during our acclimatization period for some of the neighboring peaks such as Mont Blanc.

Once on the Italian side, we can stop for an Italian cappuccino before embarking on the final stage—the Panoramique du Mont Blanc, a high cable car suspended between the Midi and Helbronner. This remarkable half-hour ride takes us back to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi, from where we descend via cable car to Chamonix.
